Nokia 5230 S60v5 Trick: Changing Your Phone’s Font

This item was filled under [ Hacks and Tips, Others ]

You have been seeing the same old fonts and layouts from the day you bought your phone. Switching themes won’t do a thing about the font – you always get that trademark-Symbian, thin letterings on your homescreen, in your menu, and through your messages. How about a makeover?

No, I’m not talking about some 3rd-party apps, or a firmware hack — rather, as we always do it, this is something you can do yourself, and this is a fairly simple trick.

All right, without further ado, let’s jump right in to the font-changing-process. Step one – choose your font. (Not sure how? Go to Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Fonts if you are on Windows Vista or later, or just go Control Panel\Fonts if you are on XP. You’ll see all the fonts you have installed on your computer. Preview them and pick the font that suits you.)

The mandate is that the font you choose should be TrueType (bearing the extension ‘.ttf’). Also, make sure that the font is pretty large, and has clear outlines, since the way it appears on the phone is rather tiny. Small fonts, or decorative ones like ‘Jokerman ITC’ won’t be legible enough on the phone’s screen.

Step two – copy the font to your Desktop. Now, make 3 more copies of the font (you’ll just need to copy the font, and paste it thrice). Now that you have four copies of your preferred font on the desktop, rename them as follows:

S60snr

S60ssb

S60tsb

s60ZDIGI

Step three – copy them to your phone, in the right location. To accomplish this, connect your phone to the PC in ‘Mass Storage’ mode. Now open the ‘Resources’ folder in your memory-card. Create a new folder called ‘Fonts’ here (is the folder already exists, just empty it’s contents). Now, copy the 4 font-files you just created into this folder, and you’re almost done!

Step five – restart your phone. Step six – stare at your phone with your fingers crossed, praying that things work. If you’ve done everything right, you should see your Nuron with a brand new font onboard! Enjoy, and have fun switching your font every forthnight and making your friends at your phone and your font-changing-wisdom – just don’t tell them who taught you the trick. :)

Make sure you did all the steps correctly.
Make sure u named the fonts correctly – you should leave the “.ttf” extension on them, so that the actual filenames would be “s60ssb.ttf”, “s60snr.ttf” etc.
Also, the directory to put them in is, “E:\resources\Fonts”. If it does not exist, create it. If you did all these steps correctly, it should definitely work for you.

Its Gr8,It Is Work Really Well.Hey Arshed Nabeel,Hw Can i Download Garmin Mobile XT???Is OVI maps Work Well In Malappuram??

  • 27 December, 2010, 13:25

In India, Sygic Maps is a better alternative to Ovi Maps – it uses the MapMyIndia maps, and offers great coverage all over India.
Regarding the Garmin Mobile, just run a Google or torrent search, you’ll find what you want. ;)
