Nokia 5230 S60v5 App: Situations | Profiles with Brains

Remember what we talked about just a few days ago, about having more options in the profie-settings, like brightness-settings? Well now, Nokia is planning to give us all almost just that!

Christened Nokia Situations, here we have a new experimental application that can customise your phone settings according to situations, say, time of the day, or the place you are at. You get to configure,  in addition to the usual profile settings, themes, wallpapers, bluetooth etc. You can even choose to launch a custom application or bookmark, and choose auto-SMS-answering for missed calls.

The interesting feature is not this – you get to automate the whole situation-switching process. You can configure this app to switch situations when with the time of day,  a specific calender-event, when you are at specific locations, or when you connect to specific bluetooth devices – now that’s quite some automation, isn’t it? You can have your profile switch to silent-mode when you enter college or office,  when you go to sleep at night, or even, when you tether your phone to your laptop over bluetooth.

Deal breaker – what we asked for, per-situation brightness settings to be precise, is not present. The app is in the experimental state, however, and we can indeed hope that the feature will be included as the application develops further. However, be advised that not all Nokia Experimental apps that showed up in the beta labs see the light of the day – but since this is a rather innovative and attractive proposition, chances are that it will, much like Swype went gold a few days ago.
